Object Description
A seated figure of a Buddha dressed in pleated garments showing a diaphanous belted shirt. Facial features – full face, half-closed eyes, small mouth- together with closely cropped curly hair and incised embellishments of floral scrolls are representative of early Qing Dynasty style. The right hand is placed over the knee in the bhumisparsa (calling the earth to witness) gesture and the left hand remains on the lap with palm up – the most common gesture of the seated Buddha also known as the subduing mara
