Object Description
Abstracted landscape in orange, ochre and olive green tonalities; row of trees horizontally across the center of the composition; impasto brushstrokes. Statement (in part) by the artist regarding his work: "...All my work evolves from a kind of puzzlement, excitement, and--at best--love. It is fed by the arts and nature. I believe that the best of man is in the arts; they are the most positive reason for optimism. The imagery in my painting is legion. I am inspired by almost everything--Nature--other artists (mostly old masters)--music--literature--religion (in a largely academic way) I try to be positive and even optimistic, but I know I am more often driven by a great sinister shadow behind me, than led by a bright shining star ahead. I would like to think that there is quite a lot of irony in my work, some humour, quite a lot of tragedy--beauty, drama, innocence, abstraction, figuration, observation, faith, doubt, logic, speculation--EVERYTHING."
