Judy Tuwaletstiwa
American,
b. 1941
Judy Tuwaletstiwa is a mixed-media painter, sculptor, and photographer who uses natural materials such as mud, sticks, feathers, glass and fiber. Her work is influenced by the geography around her. Judy Tuwaletstiwa began the mixed media paintings of De Harmonia Mundi in the spring of 2003 using the mathematical ratio of the Golden Section as the way in which the proportions of each canvas were determined. Using raw materials of feathers, feather shafts, sand, earth, clay, cotton fiber, silk thread, bamboo sticks along with acrylic paint she has composed works celebrating the harmony underlying the universe, and at the same moment, presents a shifting reality of relationship drawn from the subconscious. Tuwaletstiwa is an artist and author of Jewish descent, married to a Hopi Native American.
