Karla García is a Mexican-born, Dallas-based artist that creates installations and sculptures with clay and other symbolic materials to her Mexican heritage and the desert landscape of the Texas-Mexico borderlands. Her research-based artwork connects her history and ancient histories and how these shape her identity. She completed an MFA in Ceramics and a Museum Education Certificate from the University of North Texas in May 2019.

García's accomplishments include the Top Prize at the Sixth Annual Artspace 111 Regional Exhibition in 2019. She was selected as a visiting artist at the Dallas Museum of Art. She created a four-month interactive installation titled Carrito de Memorias which was later chosen to be exhibited at a Latin American Fine Art Competition in New York juried by Marcela Guerrero and Jaime Cerón. García attended an international artist residency in St. Raphael, France, in 2020, where she began exploring her desert landscape work featured in the Nasher Windows: Home and Land Project in August 2020. In 2021, Garcia exhibited a new iteration of this work at Gallery 12.26 in Dallas, Texas, and was awarded the Nasher Artist Grant and was selected to be a resident at Corsicana Artist and Writer Residency. Her work was reviewed for her "Rebuilt from the Ground Up" installation and in Scalawag Magazine and National Public Radio for her binational exhibition La Línea Imaginaria at El Paso, Texas border, U.S., and Juárez, Chihuahua. México. She participated in the Soy de Tejas: a statewide survey of Latinx art at Centro de Artes in San Antonio, Texas, and at 12.26 Gallery in Dallas, Texas, for the group exhibition The Range, co-curated by gallery The Valley Taos. García's latest installation "When the Grass Stands Still" is currently on view at the Old Jail Art Center in Albany, Texas.
