Ann Sperry
American,
(1934–2009)
Ann Sperry began making sculpture in the 1960s, experimentating with the emotional and psychological potential of material. In later decades, when the art world came to value postmodern coolness and detachment, Sperry remained unafraid to reach into her heart and soul. She made art about her experience as a woman, a Jew and a human being awestruck by the immensity of the cosmos.
Ann Sperry’s first exhibition was Contemporary Artists Series: Sculpture at Stedman Art Gallery, Rutgers University in Camden, NJ in 1982, and the most recent exhibition was Ann Sperry: Harmonic Convergence at SculptureCenter in New York City, NY in 2010. Ann Sperry is exclusively exhibited in United States. Sperry has two solo shows and 4 group shows over the last 28 years (for more information, see biography). The most important show was Ann Sperry: Harmonic Convergence at SculptureCenter in New York City, NY in 2010. Other important shows were at New Museum in New York City, NY and Cincinnati Contemporary Arts Center (CAC) in Cincinnati, OH. Ann Sperry has been exhibited with Barbara Zucker and Louise Bourgeois. Ann Sperry’s art is in one museum collection, at Storm King Art Center in Mountainville, NY.
